CUTC Cover Page Graphic 2

Saturday, April 23, 930am-11am (Rain Date: April 30)

Our parks need your help with Spring Cleaning! The Half Moon Bay Community Association has registered six Half Moon Bay Parks for the City of Ottawa’s Tim Hortons Cleaning the Capital Campaign.

Freshwater Parkette
River Run Park
Half Moon Bay Park & Stormwater Pond
Regatta Park
Corrigan Stormwater Pond & Park
Tucana Park

We need 12 Captains to help organize the clean up projects at our 6 community parks. We are also looking for community volunteers for each team to help with the clean-up activities.

All families and student volunteers are welcome!

Student volunteer hours can be issued if arranged in advance. To participate as a captain, please contact Kris Raby via Facebook or at parks@hmbca.ca.

Thank You Half Moon Bay!

On behalf of our 80-90 volunteers and the families who count on the Barrhaven Food Cupboard for help, thank you, the Half Moon Bay Community Association and the participants at your community event today for your support of the Barrhaven Food Cupboard.

Many people are surprised that a food cupboard actually exists in a community such as Barrhaven. The unfortunate reality is that the need for food assistance even in a community such as Barrhaven has increased significantly over the last several years.

In 2010, for example, the Barrhaven Food Cupboard provided food assistance to an average of 46 families a month. In 2011, the monthly average increased to 64 families. In August 2012, 102 families were served -- this translates into 369 persons, of which about 1/2 are children.

As the "neighbours helping neighbours" caption on the Barrhaven Food Cupboard logo emphasizes, it is only with the generosity and thoughtfulness of neighbours such as yourselves that the Barrhaven Food Cupboard can continue to provide some measure of help to those of our neighbours in need.

We are grateful for your support. Would you please pass our thanks along to your community association and the participants in your food drive.

Thank you!

Food Drive for the Barrhaven Food Cupboard

RESCHEDULED TO SUNDAY 10AM-12 NOON DUE TO RAIN!

Extra cans in your cupboard? Change lying around the house?

Bring it out on Saturday, September 22nd to Half Moon Bay Park between 10am-12pm!

The Half Moon Bay Community Association is hosting a food drive for the Barrhaven Food Cupboard. The levels for the BFC are dangerously low so lets do what we can to help out our neighbours.

There will be refreshments provided and Councillor Jan Harder will be there to help officially open our new park as well!

Hope to see you there!

Security Alert: Theft from Half Moon Bay Park

Some disappointing news came out today from our city councillor Jan Harder about a theft that took place at our new, unopened, Half Moon Bay Park located at Greenbank and Cambrian.

According to a tweet from her, a very expensive mushroom children's ride-on toy, and some shrubs, were stolen from the park. She is pleading for these items to be returned to the Walter Baker Centre.

Details are still emerging, and will be reported here as we gather more information.

In the meantime, we are asking any resident who may have seen anything suspicious to report it to the Ottawa Police at 613-236-1222, ext. 7300.

Also, while out and about in the community tonight, please keep an eye out for these items as there is a possibility that they were "dumped" by the culprits.

Tucana Park Update August 24, 2012

Many neighbours have been asking about the start date for the construction of the park.

I received this information from Louise Cerveny via Jan Harder's office.

The construction of Tucana Park will commence next week with heavy equipment moving onto the site mid-week. I informed the community in June that construction would begin in mid August. The tender closed 2 weeks ago. The contractor awarded the project is D&G Landscaping. They are required to obtain bonding and liability insurance for each project and this can sometimes delay the start up date. We estimate that the construction will be 90% complete by the end of October (weather permitting). I have included a copy of the final concept Drawing in addition to the Landscape and 60% submission Planting Plan drawing, identical to the tender drawing.
