Barrhaven Sportsplex Follow Up

Update: For full, up-to-date information, please visit the Minto Recreation Complex — Barrhaven page.

Sean Cusson, our president, was able to attend the meeting regarding the new Sports Complex to be located at the corner of Cambrian Road and Greenbank Road.

Unfortunately there wasn't a lot to report back other than some pictures of the proposed floor plans at this time.  There will be further meetings as more information becomes available. Please watch for future updates.

You can also download the plans in pdf file here. Sportsplex Plans v2 01Mar12

The recreation complex is scheduled for completion in Fall 2014.  As can be seen in the images, there is going to be a pool, gymnasium with state of the art fitness centre, two ice pads and sports fields.

Tucana Park Development Meeting

Please join us for the first community meeting to discuss the development of Tucana Park to be held at the Stonebridge Golf Club on Monday, March 5 from 7:30-9:30. Louise Cerveny, Planner - Project Manager, Parks from the City of Ottawa will be attending. Louise will have copies of  the concept design for this park for your comments.

Flyers will be distributed throughout the neighbourhood to the homes south of the Jock River between Jockvale, Cambrian and Greenbank. If you do not receive your flyer there will be additional copies available at the Independent store or in this weeks EMC.

Please come and encourage your neighbours to attend. This will be a wonderful opportunity to provide input into creating a park you will enjoy and be proud of.

Tucana Park Update February 1, 2012

The Tucana Park design has been initiated and the city hopes to invite the public to a public consultation meeting in March to review the concept plan and garner comments and recommendations.

Louise Cerveny, Planner-Project Manager Parks, tells us the city hopes to commence construction of the park in June and complete the construction this year in the late fall.

Stay tuned to this site and I will update you as to the date of the March meeting. Please encourage any of your neighbors who are interested in the parks plan to sign on and provide ideas to develop a park that all will be able to enjoy.

I have agreed to be the facilitator for this Special Interest Group, Friends of Tucana Park. Please go to the forum called Friends of Tucana Park to take part in the discussions or to comment.

Hockey Day in Ottawa 2012

4th Annual Hockey Day in Ottawa

On Saturday, lace up your skates and take to one of the City’s outdoor rinks for a sunny Saturday afternoon of fun. Enjoy a game of pick-up hockey, skating, and physical fitness while showing support for your community volunteers who work hard all winter to maintain your local rinks.

Date: Saturday, February 11, 2012

Time: 1 to 3 p.m.

Location: Your local City of Ottawa outdoor rink

The City would like to remind residents to dress appropriately for the weather and strongly recommends the use of helmets and applicable safety equipment.

Come on Ottawa, let’s show the rest of Canada what a city that lives and breathes hockey really looks like!
