What: Help Build a Liveable Ottawa Information Session When: Tuesday, October 22nd, 4pm-8pm Where: Walter Baker Sports Centre, 2nd Floor Food Court, 100 Malvern Drive
What will Ottawa's transportation network look like in the years to come? How will we move around the city on the bus, in our cars, on our bikes or on foot? How does the way we move around our neighbourhoods fit in with the way the city will physically grow and develop as guided by our city's updated Official Plan?
What can we afford to build and maintain?
Follow the Building a Liveable Ottawa 2031 project by learning more about the Official Plan, Infrastructure Master Plan, Transportation Master Plan, Cycling Plan and the Pedestrian Plan at tonight's Information Session at the Walter Baker Sports Centre from 4pm-8-pm.
City staff will be available to discuss and explain proposed plans for the expansion of the city's transit, road, cycling and pedestrian networks, as well as the proposed policies to guide development in the urban, suburban, and rural areas of Ottawa.
This Halloween (Thursday, October 31) the HMBCA will be handing out peanut-free candy from 5pm to 6pm at the corner of Rivermist and Cambrian.
Bring out your little ones in their costumes to get some candy and meet some of the HMBCA Board of Directors.
The HMBCA has also secured a speed board for Cambrian Rd. to help reduce traffic speed during this busy night, and our friends at Rogers will be deploying the Pumpkin Patrol to help keep us safe. Look for the Rogers vehicles around the community!
What: A celebration of the new public art at Half Moon Bay Park Where: Half Moon Bay Park When: Saturday, September 28, 6:30pm - 8:30pm
In association with CultureDays.ca you are invited to discover a new public art commission Falling Star by Don Maynard. Meet the artist, enjoy hands-on art activities and experience star gazing with the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada. Bring the whole family and explore the new public art in Half Moon Bay Park!
Falling Star was commissioned by the City of Ottawa Public Art Program for Half Moon Bay Park in Barrhaven South. The 13-foot high cast aluminum sculpture sits atop the toboggan hill, balanced on one of its five points. As if fallen from the sky, the artwork creates a bridge between the immensity of the celestial universe and our place on earth. Falling Star will shimmer during the night from the hundreds of holes emanating light- making reference to the celestial bodies and constellations above.
Watch the installation of Falling Star on YouTube.
On behalf of all our volunteers and the families that call on us for food assistance, I thank you, the Half Moon Bay Community Association and all the participants in your second annual food drive for the Barrhaven Food Cupboard for your donations today.
Your contributions are particularly welcome at this time of year because summers are usually the "dry period" for donations and the proceeds from your food drive will help to replenish our depleted food supplies. As Barrhaven continues to grow, the increase in the number of families requesting food assistance is increasing at an even faster rate. In 2012, for example, an average 89 families requested helped each month. So far, in the first nine or so months of 2013, the monthly average has increased by 29-30% to about 115 families.
It is only with the support of good neighbours such as yourselves that we can continue to help those needing help in our community. Would you please pass our thanks along to all those involved in your food drive? Thank you!
